Vestibular Rehab

Have you ever experienced dizziness, light-headedness, vertigo (sensation of spinning), difficulty with concentration, fatigue, headache or migraine? If so, you may benefit from Vestibular Rehabilitation.

What is Vestibular Rehabilitation?

Vestibular Rehabilitation is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on assisting people in overcoming symptoms related to inner ear disorders. This can include people who experience symptoms of vertigo (the feeling of yourself or the world spinning around you), dizziness, visual disturbances, imbalance, motion sensitivity, nausea, headache, or migraine. Other problems that can accompany vestibular disorders include motion sensitivity, nausea, difficulty with concentration, and fatigue.

What does a Vestibular Rehabilitation Treatment Plan Look Like?

At your initial appointment, you will undergo a thorough discussion about the nature and history of your symptoms and how they are impacting your daily activities. A review of your medical history and the goals you wish to achieve with Vestibular Rehabilitation will take place.

Several different objective tests to evaluate how the vision, vestibular, and balance systems are being controlled and functioning will also be used.

Infrared goggles will be used to assist with diagnosis and treatment. These special goggles are used to determine if involuntary eye movements called nystagmus are present.

At Global Physiotherapy, our Vestibular Rehabilitation services also include:

  • Patient education! Explaining what was found on the assessment, how your symptoms can be improved, and how goals addressed with therapy would be discussed.
  • Customized exercise plan developed from the Vestibular assessment findings that can reduce vertigo, dizziness, imbalance/ fall risk, and visual disturbances.
  • Adjunctive treatments such as manual therapy, dry needling may also be utilized to treat any Orthopaedic deficits (range of motion, strength, tension) related to Vestibular impairments. Acupuncture is another adjunctive treatment that may be implemented.
  • And more, as needed
